The gap was visible. The institution was not.
ANII was founded in Accra, Ghana in 2026 — not as a response to a funding opportunity, but as a response to a structural failure that Stephen Amuzu Mawuli had observed for years from inside the sector. As founder of Baraka Outreach LBG in Ghana's Bono Region, he led the Comfort Fund — providing educational support to vulnerable children — alongside a widows' empowerment programme and a series of community leadership initiatives.
Year after year, the same pattern repeated itself: donor capital consistently flowing past locally built, community-rooted organisations that were doing the continent's most important work. The problem was not a lack of credible NGOs. The problem was the absence of the institutional infrastructure to make them visible, verifiable, and ready.
ANII is the answer to that gap. Not a project. Not a programme. A permanent institution — designed to equip, certify, connect, and resource the people and organisations leading Africa's social sector, with a continental mandate across all 54 African Union member states and a philosophy rooted in Ubuntu: the belief that the sector rises together or not at all.
Ubuntu — I am because we are.
ANII is built on the conviction that the professionalisation of Africa's social sector is a collective endeavour. No single organisation rises alone. The sector rises together — or not at all. Every programme, every certification, every connection we make is an expression of this belief.

ANII is built in Africa, governed by Africans, and accountable to the African social sector first.

Every standard, programme, and decision is shaped by people who have done the work, not observed it.

ANII holds no funding relationship that compromises its ability to set honest standards.

Our scope is all 54 African Union member states. Ghana is our home. Africa is our jurisdiction.
- 05Quality without compromise
ANII certification means something because we refuse to let it mean anything less.
- 06Ubuntu as operating principle
We exist to lift the whole sector, not to extract value from it.

Stephen Amuzu Mawuli is the Founder and Executive Director of ANII. A practitioner first, he built Baraka Outreach LBG in Ghana's Bono Region before founding ANII in 2026 — driven by a simple observation: Africa has no shortage of extraordinary NGOs. It has a shortage of the institutional infrastructure to make them visible, credible, and funded. ANII is that infrastructure.
Where we are going.
- Year 1 · 2026–27Found and launch
Convene the Founders' Forum. Establish the first 200 members across Ghana and West Africa. Launch the ANII Certification Framework.
- Year 2 · 2027–28Scale and credentialise
Grow to 800 members across 15 African countries. Launch the first cohort of certified NGO practitioners. Establish the first funder matchmaking programme.
- Year 3 · 2028–29Continental authority
2,500 members across all 54 AU member states. ANII certification recognised by major bilateral and multilateral funders. First continental sector report published.
